This study also produced a scoring system which can be used to score clinical cases. The effect that different types of bedding may have on the prevalence of pododermatitis was also investigated. Findings suggested that young rabbits are at a lower risk of pododermatitis compared with older rabbits female domestic rabbits are more predisposed to pododermatitis than males and 100 per cent of the neutered females examined showed clinical evidence of pododermatitis. It was the aim of this study to determine the prevalence of pododermatitis within a sample pet rabbit population, and study possible correlations with husbandry, sex, breed and origin of the rabbits. Pododermatitis is a common clinical finding in the pet rabbit population, but no data is available regarding the actual prevalence of this condition in the UK pet rabbit population or possible husbandry-related factors which may predispose pet rabbits to development of this condition. Pododermatitis, often called 'sore hocks', is a chronic, granulomatous, ulcerative dermatitis which most commonly affects the plantar aspect of the caudal metatarsal and tarsal areas.

The total cost of the project was 80,640 and this can be affordable by farmers in both urban and rural areas. All this materials are cut to the require dimension and assembled. Plastic containing used engine oil was used for the four legs to prevent rodent and termite attack. The hutch was constructed at the department of Agricultural and bio-environmental engineering technology, Auchi polytechnic Auchi, using welded wire mesh for the cage, binding wire for holding the pieces of wire mesh together and wood for the stand, cross pieces and ply wood board for the covering of the side and back, zinc for the roofing, gauze wire mesh for covering of the front, nail for holding the materials together, the galvanize sheet for the collection of the droppings, bolt and nut for the joining of the structure together for detachability and easy transportation. In this project work, investigations was made on construction of a detachable rabbit hutch system to accommodate six rabbits, using basic construction principle with required space. There is limited study information on rabbit rearing in a hutch system. Rabbit rearing in hutch system is not all that common in our society compared with poultry.
